What protects we prove it

Vector Control Product Evaluation Centre of Institut Pierre Richet, Bouaké. Nets, insecticides, baits, housing interventions, we measure what really works against mosquitoes.

It all starts on a mesh

Under the WHO cone, insectary-reared mosquitoes meet the net under test. Susceptible and resistant strains, the difference shows within hours.

A real night a real hut

At M'bé, near Bouaké, our experimental huts reproduce local homes. Wild mosquitoes enter through the eaves and meet the product, and every morning the team collects, counts and scores them.

Then whole villages

When a tool passes the hut test, we evaluate it at community scale, through cluster-randomised trials with entomological and epidemiological follow-up. The lethal house lure was evaluated this way.

Resistance mapped

We track the kdr and Ace-1 mutations that let anopheles survive insecticides, from the southern forests to the northern savannahs of Côte d'Ivoire.

In the field

Community meetings, household surveys, participant follow-up. The centre's teams work closely with communities.

What we evaluate

Seven product families, tested from the laboratory to the village.

How a study works

A typical path, from first contact to the prequalification dossier.

  1. 1The request

You describe the product, its active ingredient and the target stage. A kick-off meeting sets objectives, deliverables, timeline and contacts.

  2. 2The protocol

A study plan in line with WHO guidelines, approved by the centre and by you before work starts.

  3. 3The GLP study

A study director runs it under quality assurance oversight. You are kept informed at every stage, deviations included.

  4. 4The report

Results, statistics, deviations and quality assurance statement, reviewed by the study director, quality assurance and management.

  5. 5The dossier

Data ready for WHO prequalification and regulators. The efficacy module of the dossier brings together laboratory, semi-field and field studies.
