Quality and GLP
The centre is certified compliant with the OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice. What it guarantees, and why it matters.
The certificate
- Issued by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS)
- OECD Principles of GLP
- Efficacy studies of insecticidal products
- Valid from June 2023 to June 2028
SANAS G0039
What GLP guarantees
- 1An approved study plan
Each study follows a written protocol, signed before work starts, under the responsibility of a study director.
- 2Standard operating procedures
Rearing, bioassays, huts, equipment, every repeated task is written down and applied the same way.
- 3Independent quality assurance
A quality assurance unit inspects studies and checks that reports faithfully reflect the data.
- 4Traceable and archived data
Raw data, samples and records are kept, so that every study can be reconstructed.
Quality day to day
Quality assurance and data
- An independent quality assurance unit, reporting to management
- Protocols, critical phases and final reports audited for every GLP study
- Facilities inspected every six months, archives every year
- SANAS surveillance inspections, usually every year
- Deviations and non-conformities documented and closed before the quality assurance statement
- Data on a secure server, validated software, double data entry
Staff, safety and environment
- Job descriptions reviewed every year, training records and competency assessments
- Continuing training, workshops and immersion visits with partners
- Laboratory safety manual, daily checks and quarterly inspection
- Health monitoring of exposed staff
- Hazardous waste sorted, stored separately then incinerated by a licensed company, with a certificate of destruction
The safeguarding committee
VCPEC-IPR has a safeguarding committee. Its manual, in force since June 2026, covers the following 11 points.
This manual applies to everyone working with the centre, from staff to the residents of study villages. The committee and focal points receive concerns, confidentially and without retaliation. Participants are told about their rights and how to raise concerns, in a language they understand.
- 1Code of conduct
- 2Risk assessment
- 3Incident reporting
- 4Case register
- 5Terms of reference of the committee
- 6Terms of reference of the focal points
- 7Annual training plan
- 8Community information leaflet
- 9Reporting template for IVCC
- 10Referral pathway
- 11Annual self-assessment
Why it matters to you
- Studies that can be reconstructed end to end, with no grey areas
- Reports accepted for WHO prequalification dossiers, for which WHO asks for data generated under GLP and an appropriate quality management system
- Data comparable with other certified centres
An African network of certified centres
VCPEC-IPR is one of five GLP-certified African facilities in the network supported by IVCC, alongside PAMVERC and Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania, the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques in Côte d'Ivoire and CREC in Benin.
